Just learned about him through cultural osmosis. I guess he’s a polarizing figure for being a strong jawed Indian nationalist who has aggressively postured at defending Indian interests against its neighbors, but also low key is a Hindu fundamentalist trying to do an ethnostate.
India’s caste system guarantees that even in an ethnostate there’s just always going to be a minority to exploit so to a lot of people he kind of represents an archon of death or something similar just willing death into the world and his subjects.
But I’m not Indian, don’t have to actively defend a neighboring border against China, and don’t exist in a literal caste so take everything I just said with a grain of salt.

India’s growth statistics are mostly fictitious right now. They have an enormous rural underclass working in indentured servitude & shit, a lot of it off the books, & a lot of these farms rely heavily on govt subsidies. BJP generated GDP growth by moving slave labor on to the books & creating (globally minor) surges of financialization to fuel their ruling class’ addiction to the US asset market & selling them the cheapest possible labor.
BJP constantly commits religious & racial-gendered violence (much against muslims) against minorities, often beating truck drivers for no reason & using Whatsapp forwards as confirmation they caught someone who had been selling cattle for meat & offloaded it.
For some reason they chose to distance themselves from the US when they were strong & tether themselves to US & Israel during their mutual slump
