Nah wasps are cool they hunt other insects.
And they’re pollinators. Respect them, and they will respect you.
Thats why I was stung three times already just for existing. Two times I was sitting, barely moving, just scrolling on my phone. The other time I was just dog walking when a piece of shit landed on my neck, stung me and flew away happily (I assume).
No. They are, while useful, still scum.
Edit: Did you know they love to eat your callus? They take a seat on your toes and start to munch. I’m sure I wasn’t dead yet.
I have them all over my back porch, and my mom has them on her front door. The only time they stung us was when my son was spraying them with the pressure washer. I wonder if different breeds have different temperments?
Yes, vastly so. Time of year matters too.
I have often nests in my garden. I got stung only once when they built their nest in the gutter and I wanted to clean it. I clearly remember the noise they suddenly made 2-3s before they attacked. Unprovoked, they are no threat here.
Don’t forget about these friendly fellows:
Asian murder hornets.Yes they are over 2 inches or 5cm long, they are huge, and are a menace. Unfortunately due to climate change they’ve found a foothold in Western Europe and are pretty common these days. The advice is to not kill them, but instead try to figure out where the nest is by following them. That way they can be cleared properly instead of just killing the one. Plus getting in a fight with them is a good way to get hurt, so don’t do that.
Not to be confused with cicada killers (which I did at first). Which are friendly guys that are native to the US and Mexico.

For those who are allergic, they’re all shit because they’re all deadly predators.
It’s also good to know that honeybees will not attack humans unless provoked. What they will do is fly very close to you because your scent is interesting. They probably won’t land, because it’s not something they want or need, but they will take an interest in you and that might seem aggressive, so a person might try to swat them away. If you do that, the bee may sting.
As someone who is allergic to bees, I have had to train myself to remain calm in their presence. I no longer fear them, per se, but I’m also aware that they could choose to kill me. Just like I can choose to kill them. So I will be a little more cautious. I’ll stop, and look for a safe way to create distance. Bees rarely pursue someone they do not intend to sting.
If you are alergic it’s certainly a risk, but as you say, if you stay calm, not trying to hit them, the risk is small. Respect the animals and their nature and they will respect you.
