When Amazon started putting ads on prime, I immediately stopped watching prime forever.
Fuck em.
Since they stopped letting me watch in HD in Mozilla and they won’t let me install Prime app because I don’t have Edge, they left me with no choice but to fully move to Jellyfin.
They set up the whole system so that people have no choice but to pirate stuff. They literally blocked all the ways for me to watch HD content on a PC.
I’m halfway setting up the Arr stack.

Amazon gives out free prime all the time.
I think I’ve had 2 one month free primes, and 1 free week of prime, so far this year. Of course I take it, and burden their servers by leaving shit streaming as often as I can, with absolutely no return on investment for them.

What is doing more harm to the environment is people paying for prime, and giving amazon the money to build more data centers, and to drain more drinking water supplies to cool them. 🙄

They show ads unless you pay for the super plus version of Prime. So by streaming they get ad revenue from the companies advertising even if you don’t watch the ads. The companies pay for the ads by increasing the price of what they sell- and they don’t sell only on Amazon but everywhere.
So when you buy a bag of chips at the local store, some of that money is going to Amazon because you had their streaming on.
I don’t recall ever seeing an add on prime videos.
Then again, I don’t dip my internet wick without protection, either.

I didn’t have prime for the streaming and hardly used it. Until Christmas when I just wanted Christmas bullshit on in the background and prime decided to cut in mid sentence to run an obnoxiously loud ad. So that’s how we finally cancelled prime.
Also, paying to watch ads was how cable worked.

Fuck Amazon anyway, but I used to use it when I was mooching off a friend’s prime subscription and I gotta say, this is probably a bug not intentional. Whole interface was nothing but bugs.
The whole app is a mess.
- You can give something a thumbs down, and it will continue to suggest it under “We think you’ll like”.
- You can hide a series or a movie, and it will pop up again a day later in suggestions as if you didn’t do a damned thing.
The thumbs don’t matter to Bezos. Just like the rest of your opinions.
It’s all algorithms driving engagement and a thumbs down is engagement.
I’d expected him to care more whether i want to continue paying for his product though
