The character comes from this manga. The creator of the manga licensed out the character for stickers, which is the style you see illustrated in memes (more info here). The stickers became wildly popular and that’s how she exploded online.
That manga is so depressing. You keep hoping she’ll get a better handle on her doomed romantic obsessions, and every single time she falls flat on her face. I skimmed through, hoping there would be some resolution, but it just went on and on and on. It feels like the whole point of the story is to laugh at her, which is really cruel and gross.
At least her aesthetic has been far more wholesome online. She was always really expressive, so it makes sense that her stickers were popular.

I might give it a shot. A lot of stories actually lose a lot of relatability when the characters improve over time. They basically walk away slowly
