I have heard Young Sheldon is actually better, but it’s not exactly working from fertile soil, and it sounds like a lot of character growth moments that happen in Young Sheldon are seemingly forgotten by the time the main show rolls around.
The one fan theory I think kind of redeems the show is that, based on the background math from the original, Sheldon is working on the physics behind creating an artificial black hole. The theory goes the research succeeds, rips apart that reality, and eventually the alternate universe is born as Young Sheldon doing almost the same things but butterfly effect yadda yadda
The best part of the theory is when they get spaghettified by their own research
