Well technically yes big tech corp is evil but what choice i had in hand, i used WhatsApp because everyone in my country used it as daily drive, in other hand i used Instagram because it’s popular too & everyone used it.
I loved using opensource project social media too if most of people in my country used too

I personally used adguard & adaway to block ads on my phone, if i want to block ads on another device I just tethered phoje Wi-Fi to target device.
Even nowadays i still used my phone as portable router to block ads & tracker when i used my laptop
